"Side by side or miles apart, sisters will always be connected by the heart."
Our stories are different but our hearts are the same. Due to difficult circumstances, my sister and I weren't raised together and actually grew up more like cousins than sisters. I remember writing in my diary, praying to God that one day my sister and I could be together. Though she only lived a few miles away, we didn't spend much time together - She grew up with an Aunt while I grew up with our Mother. Our Mom had a rough time early in our lives but fortunately her siblings were there to step in and help shoulder the load of parenting us. Growing up, it was really hard having a sister but not actually experiencing all of the many joys of sisterhood. But as the saying goes: "There is Beauty, even in Ashes." Although we didn't spend our formative years bonding, sharing secrets, playing dress-up and all of the other things that sisters do, we are fortunate enough to be able to do all of that and more in our adult years! Our story began a bit unusual but honestly all that matters is the Love we have, Laughs we share and Life we are living, now! The strongest bonds are forged with fire - Though it hurt initially, I know our relationship is stronger because of the adversity it has overcome. She calls me her role model but I am honestly so honored to be a big sister to such an incredible and beautiful person!
